Sit Back and Let the Fat Melt (Err, Freeze) Off

May 5, 2020 by Davis

If you’ve heard about CoolSculpting in passing, the part that probably caught your attention was the low-maintenance nature of the treatment. Shed fat without a single incision and minimal to no downtime. If it sounds too good to be true, it’s not. To that end, here’s a closer look at what CoolSculpting is and how it works.

What happens during the treatment

The treatment itself generally takes between 30 minutes and an hour, depending on the size of the area being treated and the number of areas being treated. Some plastic surgeons have the capacity to treat two separate areas simultaneously with two machines.

You’ll either sit in a comfortable chair or lie down, again, depending on the area or areas being treated. And then a protective gel will be applied to the targeted area, followed by the CoolSculpting paddle. Your skin and fat will be suctioned into the paddle, where they’ll be lowered to a temperature of 14 degrees Fahrenheit.

The fat cells in the treated area freeze and then, ultimately, die through a process called cryolipolysis. You’ll feel a couple minutes of pressure and intense cold around the treated area before it goes numb, at which point you should be able to relax and fill the remainder of the time however you want—answering work emails, scrolling through Instagram, meditating.

Once the treatment is over, the paddle is removed. Your plastic surgeon will then massage the treated area with another device that’s meant to break up the crystals and expedite the body’s natural ability to metabolize and flush out the dead fat cells. That process will occur gradually over the next few months, your results improving as it progresses.

A recent study found that the initial treatment triggers an inflammatory response that dissipates after two to three months. A second treatment, if it’s performed within the first two months of the initial treatment, generates a stronger inflammatory response, which leads to an even greater reduction in fat.

When you can expect to see results

Everyone’s biology is a little different, which means no two people are going to excrete the dead fat cells at the exact same rate. That said, you’ll notice a difference within the first month of your treatment, and it’ll become even more dramatic after two months. By that point, the majority of your result should become apparent, though your body will continue to eliminate dead fat cells for up to six months following your treatment.

Most will see a significant change in their shape after a single treatment. That said, CoolSculpting is a cumulative process, meaning the most dramatic fat reductions occur after two to three treatments, on average. And each subsequent treatment better enables your plastic surgeon to “sculpt” the contours of the treated area because there’s a further reduction of residual fat.

Even better, the results are permanent. As long as you maintain a healthy diet and exercise regularly, you’ll make the most of your new shape for the foreseeable future.

[Transcript]

Hi it’s Angela from the Skin’s Spa, and you could probably guess what I’m gonna talk to you today about. But, did you know that mud mask and clay masks have been one of the oldest natural beauty treatments that are still being used today?

But why do we even want to apply a mud mask to our skin? Well, for obvious reasons it’s very detoxifying, it removes any excess oils from our skin, it cleans out the impurities from our pores, it removes the dead skin cells, leaving the skin feeling soft, silky and radiant.

If you do not have a clay mask at your disposal, I’m gonna tell you how you can make your own. Just reach out to your natural health store or pharmacy, it comes in a powder form.

There are different ones to select from you have French Green, you have Bentonite Fuller’s earth and you’re going to take two tablespoons of the clay powder, to one to two tablespoons of distilled water.

You’re going to make that mixture it’s gonna be silky and smooth and you’re gonna apply it evenly to the skin, allowed to sit for like 15 to 20 minutes and mine has been on for about that long. You’re gonna rinse with warm water unless you have an aesthetic tool like myself and I’m just going to start to remove, (soft music the clay.

And when we return, you’re gonna see the after you can probably also see my hair is also receiving a treatment. Months ago I had invested in all these hair and scalp masks never had time, to do them now I have time to do them. So when we return, you’ll see the after and both my skin and my hair, stay tuned.

Hi I’m back, as you can see both products have been removed, and I have to say I’m very happy with how my hair turned out it does appear thicker and fuller and I like the coils that I have here, I just finished applying my skincare products to my skin my personal protocol and if you need assistance with your skin care regimen don’t hesitate to reach out to either myself or Jacqueline, and we can create a skincare regimen that’s tailored for your skin type.

And lastly, I have on my tinted sunblock, my daily defense is my BB Cream , my go-to getting ready to walk the dog and I just want to make sure that my skin is fully protected from the UVA and UVB.

But the main message is while being quarantine just don’t forget to take care of your skin, take advantage of the time that we have. I want you to stay safe, stay healthy, until I see you back in the Skin Spa. And remember, your skin is your best accessory. See you soon.

Yes, Slimmer, Toned Arms are Within Reach

April 30, 2020 by Davis

Flabby-looking upper arms, or “bat wings,” as they’re often referred to, is a problem that plagues many of us as we get older. It’s also common among those who have lost a significant amount of weight. In my last post, I highlighted what is perhaps the most effective procedure for remedying “bat wings”: brachioplasty, more commonly known as an arm lift.

When it’s performed in combination with liposuction, an arm lift removes excess fat and tightens loose skin, recontouring the upper arm—and shaving years off your appearance in the process. Here, I’ll get into how exactly that’s accomplished, and what the recovery looks like.

Yes, Slimmer, Toned Arms are Within Reach

What the surgery entails

While it’s generally performed as an outpatient surgery, an arm lift requires general anesthesia. Once you’re under, your plastic surgeon will make an incision along the inside of your upper arm. The length and pattern of the incision will depend on how much skin will be removed. If you’ve ever had a piece of clothing tailored, an arm lift is essentially akin to that. The tailor places a seam, or a dart, to take in the excess fabric. Your surgeon’s doing the same here with the incision.

If you’re having liposuction done, too, that’ll come next. And then your surgeon will tighten the underlying tissue in your arm and secure it with stitches. Using a scalpel or cautery tool, they’ll then remove a certain amount of skin from your upper arm and suture the incisions closed.

You’ll be monitored for a few hours following the procedure. Once the anesthesia’s worn off, you’ll be able to go home. Plan to have someone drive you and be available to help for the first day or so.

New arms, new you

Your arms are likely going to feel tight for the first three to four days after the surgery. Patients usually reference that more than they do any pain. You’ll be prescribed pain medication that will help alleviate both. You also may be sent home with compression sleeves, which will help with the swelling.

If you had surgical drains placed near your incisions to help your arms heal, your plastic surgeon will remove them at a follow-up appointment about a week after your surgery. You’ll likely be asked to continue wearing the compression sleeves for three weeks and to limit your range of motion with your arms for a week or two. It’s a good idea to plan on being out of work for a couple of weeks.

The silver lining: You should notice a dramatic difference in your arms right away. Even with the swelling that will follow the surgery, your upper arms will look slimmer and toned. And that’s only going to improve over the weeks ahead as the swelling subsides.

With a balanced diet and a consistent exercise regimen, those results will be long-lasting.
