Size isn’t the Quality Feeding Women’s Dissatisfaction with their Breasts

August 13, 2020 by Davis

I bet you didn’t know that more than 70% of the 18,541 women who were polled as part of the Breast Size Satisfaction Survey, published earlier this year, reported that they were dissatisfied with theirs. In other words, it’s not a coincidence that breast augmentations are the most popular cosmetic surgical procedure performed in the United States, and has been for quite some time.

At Davis Cosmetic Plastic Surgery we find size isn’t the only quality many women would like to change about their breasts. If you ever stared into a mirror and wondered to yourself, are my areolas normal? You’re not alone. They come in all different colors and sizes, both of which tend to change over the course of a woman’s lifetime—which only seems to feed the insecurity that surrounds them.

Size isn’t the Quality Feeding Women’s Dissatisfaction with their Breasts; Areolas

What does a “normal” areola look like?

First thing first: What is the areola? Sure, it’s the pigmented skin that surrounds the nipple, but what is it, exactly? Have you noticed the tiny little pimples on your areolas? Dr. Davis explains, “Those are lactiferous ducts. There’s a small number of them on the areola. There are also Montgomery glands – they can release a small amount of breast milk, but they mostly produce a lubricating substance to keep both the areola and the nipple soft and smooth for lactation.”

The pigment ranges from nearly identical to the rest of the skin to deep purple or dark brown. The color of your areolas is not indicative of anything, though the color generally darkens as the breasts and areolas grow during pregnancy and breastfeeding — due to hormonal changes.

Genetics are the driving factor for how large your areolas are. Sometimes their size correlates directly with the size of the breasts, but there’s a lot of deviation from that.

The so-called “normal” areola doesn’t exist. There’s too much variation to pin down any one combination of color, size, and shape and anoint it the ideal. Here, we make sure our patients understand, it’s OK if your areolas aren’t identical.

How to change the size of your areolas

Dr. Davis is experienced in many procedures that will alter the size of your areolas. Whether you want to go smaller or larger, surgery is your best bet.  If you want smaller areolas, an areola reduction is most often done as part of breast reduction or breast lift, though it can also be done on its own, or with breast implants. This procedure is generally able to reduce the diameter by 25% to 50%.

A breast augmentation is the most effective way to increase the size of the areola. When the breasts get bigger, the areolas will too. And that’s because, as the breast grows, the overlying skin stretches with it, increasing the diameter of the areola.

Davis Cosmetic Plastic Surgery is known for state-of-the art breast procedures that insure you looking great and feel the best about yourself.

If you have any questions related to Breast Augmentation, please contact us and we can schedule a virtual consultation with Dr. Davis.

How to Position Yourself for a Healthy, Stress-Free Recovery

August 11, 2020 by Davis

Once you had your consultation with Davis Cosmetic Plastic Surgery and scheduled your procedure, your homework doesn’t end there. Our patients are often surprised to learn just how much of their recovery from their treatment impacts their results. While we are there to guide you through the process, whether it’s a few days or a few weeks, there are some things you can do beforehand that will enable you to fully focus on your recovery when the time comes.

Get organized

Everyone recovers at their own pace, but I’ll give you a general idea of how long you should expect yours to last. For your part, make a list of all the errands you’d normally run during that period and plan to take care of them during the days prior to your procedure. Allot time, too, for cleaning your home and scheduling pet or childcare. Basically, act like you’re leaving for an extended, exotic vacation.

Make time for yourself

But don’t let all of your time be absorbed by chores. Ideally, try to have all of that taken care of within two to three days of your procedure. Then use the remaining time to focus on yourself. Even less invasive procedures can induce a certain amount of stress. So try to do things that will relax you. We recommend getting a massage, or taking a couple virtual restorative yoga classes. We often find calm patients consistently heal the fastest.

Be patient with your recovery. You’ve done everything you could to position yourself for the best possible outcome. Think of the recovery as one more extension of that commitment.

That means not only giving yourself a break but also remembering that we’re in this together. The post-treatment instructions I’ll provide you, while they may feel a bit restrictive at times, they’re meant to help you achieve a great outcome and keep you safe in the meantime.

Limit your time online

Google and social media may have been great resources during your preparation, but they can also stir up a lot of unnecessary anxiety. If you have any lingering questions or concerns about your procedure, don’t hesitate to call or email me. The problem with relying on the internet for those sorts of things is it can be quite disorienting. Every review, testimonial, and post is presented matter-of-factly, when in reality, there’s nuance in the context that influences every procedure.

As always the staff at Davis Cosmetic Plastic Surgery is here to answer any and all questions and set you up for the best success — we want you to look and feel your best.

[Transcript]

  • Hi everyone, Dr. Steven Davis
  • Sara Cole R.N.
  • We’re here at Davis Cosmetic Plastic Surgery, with really exciting news, because we want you to maximize the rest of summer 2020. And the best way that we think that you could do that, to have some fun with everything, is to do something that Sarah and I have come up with called perfecting your peach. Sara, tell me a little bit about that.
  • perfecting your peach. So we’re wearing masks, a lot of people can’t really see, what’s under our masks right now. We’re on the beach. We’re prancing around in really adorable bikinis and thong bikinis are actually back in the summer. So what are people looking at? They’re looking at you’re cute butt. So what do we do? We wanna focus our intention on our booty skincare, plumping it, perfecting it, focusing on little areas that maybe we’re not happy with. We can actually take care of everything in the office.
  • So one of the exciting things that we’re doing at Davis Cosmetic Plastic Surgery is, we’re individualizing this booty kit, if you will. So we can talk with you in a virtual consultation, we can take a look at what you think that your issues are, and then we can go through a step by step version, of what will be perfect for your peach. And I know that a few of the patients, that we’ve already done, over the past few weeks just trying to get this all together, have been super excited about this and I think the most important thing for you to know, is that these are treatment options that we’ve been doing for years on other parts of the body, like our face, like our décolleté on the chest and now we’ve just tried to put it all together in a way that we can really specialize in an area, with summer still here, so that for the summer of 2020, it could be something that you’re really excited about.
  • And think about it, everyone talks about how they want to face, where it looks like they have a filter over it. They spend tons of money on skincare, masks, makeup, you name it. But meanwhile, if we turn around doing on our booties to kind of look like we have a filter over them as well, make them look absolutely flawless and that is why you should come to us because we have all kinds of tricks up our sleeves.
  • So if this sounds exciting to you, contact us at info@daviscps.com and don’t hesitate to talk about things like cellulite and other areas that are surrounding the butt, like the back of the thighs, the outside of the thighs too, because we’re kind of bundling all that together. So we’re looking forward to talking with you about it and stay tuned for more Instagrams and other things where we’re doing some very exciting things.
  • Alright.
  • Bye bye

Angela Discusses Giving Yourself a Golden Face Mask

July 31, 2020 by Davis

Let’s add a little shine to your day! The golden face mask is an ideal way to keep your skin glowing and healthy without breaking the bank. Angela sits down to tell you everything you need to know about mastering this mask at home so you can try it out for yourself.

Round up the ingredients listed in the video below and watch your skin transform into a brighter & tighter version. It’s time to get golden!

If you have any questions about the golden face mask or other skincare inquires, feel free to reach out to our Cherry Hill, NJ plastic surgery office. We’re always happy to help!

[Transcript]

Hi, it’s Angela. And today, I want to talk about how you can give your skin a golden treatment at home.

We offer the 24-karat sheet mask available for retail. We’re taking orders at info@daviscps If you’re interested in purchasing those, don’t hesitate to give us an email, but in the interim, because I can’t see you, I’m going to share with you how you can create your own golden treatment at home.

So what I’ve done today to prep my skin, to give it like a thorough de-greasing, I’m using the Ready, Set, Glow Pads, that video you are familiar with, and once I swipe with the pads, that’s just going to give me like a mini chemical peel. And this is one of my favorite golden masks that I like to apply.

Now, to do this at home, all you would need, is three cups of yogurt, plain yogurt, three tablespoons of raw honey, and a teaspoon of saffron.

Saffron is a spice that offers medicinal properties. It’s great at alleviating discolorations, skin ruddiness, and it’s also good for acne. And if you want to increase the brightening component of your golden sun mask, what you can do is add some lemon juice.

So you’re going to leave the mixture on for about 30 minutes. Go ahead and multitask, that many of us are doing right now.

And once you’ve rinsed, your skin is gonna look so dewy, and golden, and bright. It is going to be amazing because, remember, your skin is your best accessory.

Once you apply the golden mixture to your face, feel free to take it down to your neck and your decollete, and then allow it to sit for 20 to 30 minutes, while you’re multitasking, or today, I decided to read a book.

Stay tuned for the reveal of the golden treatment. Well, I just removed the golden treatment, and my skin feels and looks hydrated, dewy, brighter. If you would like information on how you can get the golden treatment at home, again, you can reach out for virtual consultations or recipe information.

I honestly can say, I feel that I did achieve the golden glow. You be the judge. Remember, your skin is your best accessory.

When Creams Won’t Help Your Stretch Marks, Consider One of These In-Office Procedures

July 30, 2020 by Davis

If it’s not heartening to hear that stretch marks are extremely common, there’s this: Even supermodels get them. Chrissy Teigen caused a stir a couple of years back when she posted a video of her post-pregnancy stretch marks on her Instagram story.

Stretch marks are most likely to crop up during and after rapid body changes, like weight gain or loss, a growth spurt, and, of course, pregnancy. In fact, a 2015 study found that more than 50% of women developed stretch marks while pregnant.

And while they can appear anywhere on the body, stretch marks are most likely to surface in spots with larger fat deposits, such as the thighs, buttocks, abdomen, and breasts.

So, what can you do about them? You may have noticed there’s an abundance of stretch-mark creams. Trouble is, stretch marks result from damage below the skin. Basically, they’re scars that occur when collagen and elastin in the dermis are damaged. So no topical product’s going to effectively diminish or remove your marks.

But that doesn’t mean you’re stuck with yours. There are a number of in-office procedures available at Davis Cosmetic Plastic Surgery. Here’s a look at three of the most effective ones.

When Creams Won’t Help Your Stretch Marks, Consider One of These In-Office Procedures

Microneedling

You may be familiar with facial microneedling from your favorite aesthetician, where the procedure helps stimulate collagen production to minimize wrinkles. That same process can help dramatically reduce the appearance of stretch marks.

Tiny needles are rolled across the stretch marks, creating microscopic injuries along the way. While that may sound torturous, the procedure is relatively painless. (The needles are really tiny.) And the “injuries” are triggering the body’s wound-healing response, which entails boosting its production of collagen and elastin.

Improvement won’t come in a single session; you’ll likely need several treatments to achieve your desired results. But, there’s no downtime. And once your stretch marks are diminished, they’ll stay that way.  You’ll see our aesthetician a few weeks in a row, and you’ll have a plan in place with her from the start.

Lasers

Another way to treat stretch marks is lasers – there are primarily two kinds that we use, pulsed dye lasers and fractional resurfacing lasers. The latter works by targeting the hyperpigmentation in stretch marks, directing pulses of light energy at blood vessels.

Pulsed dye lasers produce the best results in newly formed stretch marks. You may need three to five treatments to fully reduce the redness and halt your stretch marks’ progression, but the procedure is fairly quick and painless.

We can also use a fractional resurfacing laser – which works much like microneedling, creating precise and controlled wounds in the stretch marks in order to increase the production of collagen and elastin.

It’s considered the gold standard treatment for older and wider marks, especially those on the hips and thighs, helping to both narrow the marks and improve the overall texture of the skin. Similar to the other procedures, you’ll need three to five treatments.

Both types of lasers are considered to be safe and effective to use on all skin tones.
