Dr. Steven Davis Explores the World of Plastic Surgery in Miami, Florida (Part 2)

February 7, 2020 by Davis

As Dr. Davis takes in the beautiful weather of Miami, Florida, he has been busy conversing with other plastic surgeons. We’re always on the hunt for the next best procedure, but it is imperative to perform operations correctly.

Down in Florida, Dr. Davis has, unfortunately, run into a common theme amongst patients. With the popularity of unconventional Brazilian butt lifts reaching an all-time high, Dr. D has become concerned.

Overall, Brazilian butt lifts are a safe operation. But, with the influx of off-brand injections and non-certified surgeons, butt lifts have had a variety of negative consequences.

There was one positive takeaway from learning of these unprofessional procedures, though. After chatting with other plastic surgeons, they reassure Dr. Steven Davis that we perform Brazilian butts lifts in an optimal manner.

We pride ourselves on making sure all of our treatment plans are up to the highest standards. When you come to Davis Cosmetic Plastic Surgery in Cherry Hilly, New Jersey, you know we hold ourselves to the highest standard.

Hi, I’m Dr. Steven Davis. And I’m down here in Miami, and one of the things that I’m traveling around seeing a bunch of friends of mine that work down here as plastic surgeons. And one of the things that’s really overly concerning is Brazilian butt lifts.

Down here in Miami, as you can imagine, it’s a very, very popular operation. But it really needs to be done in a very safe fashion.

One of the leaders in this entire movement to make sure that everything is being done as safely as possible is somebody that I was meeting with.

Because we do, at Davis Cosmetic Plastic Surgery, we do so many Brazilian butt lifts and liposuctioning in general that we all wanna stay as safe as possible so this becomes one of these operations that’s continuing and continuing to be an exciting procedure, but something that everyone can feel is very safe to have done.

Stay tuned for more podcasts and information, but as it is right now, the way I’m doing it in Cherry Hill and the Philadelphia area is exactly the way it’s supposed to be being done. And one of the reasons why we’re getting such really great results and it’s being done as safely as possible is because of the way we’re harvesting the fat and then reinjecting it properly.

So, you may wanna just stay tuned to watch more and more of this continuing saga about liposuctioning and doing it safely and Brazilian butt lifts. See ya soon.

Hi. Dr. Steven Davis at Davis Cosmetic Plastic Surgery. I wanted to talk to you today about one of the most interesting things that’s going on right now in the world of plastic surgery. And that’s trying to figure out a way of causing the skin to get tighter and shrink down without actually cutting any of that skin away.

And the way we’re doing it is by using heated energy to make the skin actually shrink and get tighter. It’s very exciting. There’s two companies right now that are really at the forefront of making this happen.

One of the most exciting things about it is, we here at Davis Cosmetic Plastic Surgery happen to be one of the first people in the whole Delaware Valley that actually have this. And this technology is called Renuvion J-Plasma.

And the beauty of this technology is that what’s happening is we’re actually treating, with this instrument, all the fibers that are underneath the skin that can be used and literally shrink those fibers down.

One of the ways I like to explain this to my patients’ is visualizing a mattress, believe it or not, and the best way to think about this is if you go to the store to buy a mattress that had not only box springs but also some foam in there.

Liposuctioning allows me to remove the foam if you will from the mattress but those box springs, if I can cause that box spring situation, which for us the analogy is, these fine fibers that connect your skin to the muscle tissue below. If I can get those fibers to get shorter and shrink down, I’m going to get that skin to tighten. And that’s exactly what this does.

This process that’s called J-Plasma is actually causing this fourth phase of matter called plasma, to actually cause the skin to shrink down. And it does this very very elegantly. What we do is after we do a little bit of liposuctioning of an area, it could be the neck, could be arms, it could be the abdomen, we then insert this process of this pen into the small little opening and it would literally go after the cords that are still left intact.

So we don’t want to disrupt those cords and that’s why it’s even more gentle than we’ve ever thought we needed to do before.

Best places to look for this is on my website, where you’ll be able to see some arms that have been tightened without having any kind of a scar or an abdomen without having any kind of an abdominoplasty scar, that’s made that skin tighter. Another process that’s not the Renuvion is something called Body Tite and Neck Tite.

Again, it’s a little bit of a different scenario. But it’s been in the news right now a lot because Paula Abdul has had it done to her jawline and neck. And it’s very similar in regards to how we’re going after trying to cause skin to shrink down. But similarly this fine little probe is going to be injected under or placed underneath the skin, while this process is being done on top.

And one of the exciting things about this is that if you can imagine ironing something, we’re actually allowing this to be under the skin and this rests on top of the skin and these are all different sizes, we have small ones called Accutite, this one happens to be a Neck Tite that we use to go right underneath the jawline. And this is exactly what was used on Paula Abdul. But we actually have a larger one that can be used on an abdomen or love handle area.

But at the end of the day, the take home message for all of you listening is that there are now ways of causing the skin to get tighter along with getting rid of extra body fat, without having to have large incisions and to make anything happen that will give you more down time.

So, if you’re interested in these kinds of things, don’t hesitate to contact us at Davis Cosmetic Plastic Surgery and I’ll be talking to you again soon.

3 Ways to Combine Plastic Surgery Procedures

January 17, 2020 by Davis

We’ve covered this topic before, but finding ways to combine plastic surgery procedures has become increasingly popular. When you come in for a cosmetic treatment, why wait weeks to scheduale your next visit? Our modern approach to plastic surgery has allowed our practice to master combining therapies.

Today, Dr. Steven Davis breaks down the various possibilities of multiple procedure visits. Starting with injectables, Dr. D then covers laser therapies as well as combining liposuction and a tummy tuck.

As you may know, the world of plastic surgery continues to evolve. We’re excited to share with our patients the possibilities behind a combination of cosmetic procedures. Tune in below to learn more!

[Transcript]

Hi everyone, Dr. Steven Davis at Davis Cosmetic Plastic Surgery. The hottest thing to think about going in to 2020 is combination therapy. And we’ve been doing combination plastic surgery type treatments for a very long time, but it’s becoming more and more of a thing to do.

And I wanna give you a couple examples of how you can use it in getting the best results. The first way is just injectables. When we’re doing Botox or any kind of a neuromuscular injection, like Botox, Dysport, Jeuveau, those things are gonna put muscles to rest for a period of time, usually about four to six months.

But, if at the same time, you can also inject a little bit of filler in that same general vicinity, you’re gonna potentiate the effects of both the neuromodulator, like the Botox, and the filler. Perfect example is the area right in here. A lot of people call those frown lines or the 11 lines.

When we make that animation, we’re actually causing the muscles to form a certain kind of depression of the eyebrows and causing those furrows to happen.

When we use Botox, we’re gonna stop those muscles from making that situation occur, but at the same time, if we could also put a little bit of filler in the area that may already have a little grooving there, you’re gonna potentiate the effects of both and you’re gonna allow the filler to have a longer lasting result because the metabolic rate of that area of constantly being squeezed is gonna be diminished.

Think about this again. Somebody that comes in that has, it could be you, come in, you have some furrows there that you see all the time over a lot of years. Just putting a little bit of Botox in that area will make things less aggressive in that squeeze, but it’s not gonna eliminate the lines that are already there.

What we wanna do is put a little bit of filler in there and use a little bit of Botox simultaneously. The filler that you could use in there is something like Restylane or Juvederm. It works great. Another idea about combination therapy that works terrific is talking about laser resurfacing and getting rid of fine lines and wrinkles or just acne scars, things like that.

We’ve been using lasers for years to try to resurface the skin, and when we resurface the skin, it makes the overall look of the skin much better.

But what if I told you that by stimulating deeper into the skin, closer to the dermis and below, that we’re gonna get some of your own body juices, some of that plasma-rich things that we always talk about and some of the stem cells and growth factors that are inherent in your body to actually fortify the skin and actually make it healthier from below, not just trying to resurface from above.

That’s another great combination therapy that we’ve been using and it’s a combination of using a resurfacing tool, like the CO2 laser resurfacing, and then using something like radio frequency micro-needling that’s gonna go below the skin and stimulate some of those growth factors from below.

The third example I want to give you is something like liposuctioning and a tummy tuck.

A lot of people have lost weight in getting into better and better shape or they’ve had multiple pregnancies, let’s say, and there’s a lot of skin laxity.

We can do a tummy tuck to make that extra skin go away, but what if, in addition to that, you have some love handles or areas of fat around your bra line or back, and even by just removing the extra skin, you’re really not gonna get that shape of that 360 reduction that you’re looking for.

That’s the perfect combination that we’ve been using for a while, but now even more so by doing some liposuctioning into the love handles, into the back and at the same time, reducing the extra amount of skin laxity. That’s the combination I’m talking about.

When you’re going to see your plastic surgeon or if you come to see us at Davis Cosmetic Plastic Surgery, we’re gonna talk to you about combination therapy ’cause I think in the end, it’s gonna give you the best overall result.

Thanks very much for listening. This is Davis Cosmetic Plastic Surgery.

Facial Anatomy Behind Botox and Fillers

January 10, 2020 by Davis

Many of our patients come into our office requesting procedures, but often they are unfamiliar with what is really going on behind-the-scenes. To keep things as transparent as possible, Dr. Davis takes time to reveal in-office photos during two different surgeries. In this week’s video, you will learn about eyelid surgery as well as a brow lift. Please keep in mind these videos are graphic and should be viewed with caution.

There are a number of different things regarding facial anatomy that go into cosmetic surgery, and we are proud to share them with you. If you have any questions about these procedures, contact us here.

[Transcript]

Hi everyone, Dr. Steven Davis. Listen, we’ve got a lot of things to talk about when it comes to going to see someone for different kinds of procedures and injectables and where they all come together.

So what I wanted to talk about today was something about really understanding the area that’s being injected with all these fillers and botox-type of products, and I always really, really, really enjoy showing my patients what the anatomy looks like of what I’m trying to actually inject with fillers, by showing them what an actual surgery would look like if they decided, let’s not do any more injectables, or let’s just augment some of the injectables by doing the surgical procedure.

So in this podcast and video combination that we’re gonna put together, I’m gonna put together some photos from the operating room so that you can see what I’m talking about. One of the things that I always know that patients wanna understand is when we’re injecting things like Botox, and Newtox, and Dysport, into the areas of the face, where is that muscle that we’re trying to affect?

And in a few of the photos that you’ll see, accompanying this video, you’ll be able to see that right underneath the skin, in a lot of places around the forehead and around the eyes, the muscle is so closely attached that you really don’t have to go very deeply with a needle in order to make a difference and to really get the product into the muscle that you’re trying to choose to inject.

And in this first picture that you’ll see, we’re actually in the frontalis muscle of the forehead, and we were doing a brow lift, which is a great operation, when really, after a long period of time of using a lot of different kinds of neuromodulators, or things like Botox, and you’re constantly trying to get the person’s eyebrows to really go back up to where they used to be, it’ll reach a point, because of age and gravity, that it’s just not gonna happen anymore, and you can use as much Botox as you want, but it’s never gonna get that really hanging or ptotic brow to be lifted up enough, and that’s what you’re gonna see in this photo.

You’ll actually see that we did a lateral brow lift where we actually made an incision in the hairline. I was able to come down to where the orbital rim is, and then actually lift the skin and the tissues higher up, and tack it into place, and the beauty of this operation is that it’s a direct-result type of an operation.

We’re literally trying to get the lateral part of the brow to be lifted up. It’s not what we used to do, which was a coronal brow lift, which was an incision from basically the top of the ear all the way across to the other side of your head, to the other top of the ear, and then we actually pulled the whole brow up.

Nowadays, because we have things like Botox, we don’t really need to do that involved of an operation. What we’re really trying to do is go after the culprit here, which is the ptosis brow coming down from the lateral aspect, so if we can use Botox to just make that happen, that’s wonderful, but once that starts to not be enough for a lot of people.

This lateral brow lift is a great operation, and you’ll see, right underneath the skin, after you go to what we call the subcutaneous fat, the muscle, the frontalis muscle, is right there, and that’s really what we’re trying to address when we have all these horizontal lines that go across your skin, that’s due to the horizontal movement that you’re seeing, because that frontalis muscle keeps kind of creasing up that zone. So you’ll see where Botox actually gets injected.

You’ll also see, in another set of photos, what we’re doing when we’re doing an eyelid surgery, ’cause we did that as well, and you’ll see that once there’s too much eyelid skin above that lash line, no amount of Botox, no amount of filler, is really ever gonna make that extra skin go away.

So what we do here is we make a very subtle incision that’s actually in the crease of your eyelid, and then take away the extra skin, the extra fat that a lot of times is billowing over there, and also a little bit of muscle that’s redundant in that area, so your eyelid looks smooth, and all you women that are interested in putting eyeshadow and eye-makeup on, you’ll know it becomes very difficult to be able to get that stuff in there, once you have this operation it all gets cleaned up and it looks beautiful.

But again, the muscle that’s in action in that area is the orbicularis oculi muscle, and that muscle is the other one that we’re injecting with Botox to try to make all the crows feet and other lines go away.

So I hope you enjoy some of the photos that you’ll see. They’re very authentic, right from the operating room, but that’s one of the great things about plastic surgery, is that I get the opportunity to not only do an in-office type of treatment like injectables with fillers and Botox and lasers, but I can also take you to the operating room and do some of these more exciting type of surgical procedures.

So until we talk again, I’m Dr. Steven Davis.

5 Tips to Help Recover a “Hangover Face”

January 3, 2020 by Davis

With the holiday season in full swing, it’s no secret how much celebrations are taking place. If you’re like everyone else, a long night of partying can take a lot out of you – and we’re not just talking in terms of headaches. Do you struggle with the appearance of a “hangover face?” You’re not alone. Whether it’s puffy eyes or dry skin, the look of a hangover can often be just as rough as they feel.

To finish off the week, Dr. Steven Davis sits down to cover 5 tips for you to help recover a “hangover face.” These tips range from the importance of taking off your makeup all the way to the possibilities of chamomile tea.

Our team would like to wish everyone a happy & healthy holiday season! Here at Davis Cosmetic Plastic Surgery in Cherry Hill, NJ, we’re always here to help you look & feel your best.

[Transcript]

Hi everyone, it’s the holiday season, and I wanted to talk about something that’s really interesting because I hear about it all the time after you’ve gone out drinking and after you’ve gone out and had a great time at parties and things, and that’s what do you do with the look that you get after you’ve been out all night having a great time?

What do you do with that hangover face? And I’ve got five tips that’ll help you with that hangover face. So here we go with number one. Definitely make sure you’re taking off your makeup before you go to bed that night. It may be a little cumbersome because you may be getting in late and you may not feel like doing it but I can guarantee you it’s a very good idea just to take it off as quickly as you can and then just go to bed.

But if you can do something in addition to that, like put some sort of a refreshing mask on your face, it’s gonna help. Because the next thing is, which is number two, you gotta rehydrate. Alcohol really does a number on dehydrating your whole body. But, in addition to that, it also does dehydrate your skin.

So you really want to make sure that you’re drinking a lot of fluids but some sort of a hyaluronic acid mask, or something like that, that will actually bring some moisture back into your skin is a great idea.

Number three is trying to do your best to massage your face when you get up in the morning. Now, it sounds a little nutty about massaging your face, but I know there’s a lot of products out on the market. One’s called a jade roller and others are just, you can just use a real good piece of ice cube and then just use that to massage around your eyes and other places where you just feel puffy.

But the concept here is you’re trying to shrink down dilated blood vessels that most likely do occur after a lot of alcohol consumption ’cause alcohol does dilate blood vessels. So either putting your face on ice or just massaging to get some lymphatic drainage happening to your face is a really good thing.

Number four, one of the best things that we found over all the years to help puffiness around the eyes is chamomile tea. So, if you can, when you get up in the morning, brew some chamomile tea, let it cool off a minute, and then put one tea bag on each eye for about 10 minutes. That’s also gonna do a great job in trying to just shrink down a lot of the swelling that you’re gonna see in your eyes.

It’s also a great trick to do, even if you weren’t out drinking, you just wake up and you feel like your eyes just look puffy. And the fifth thing that I think really does play a role in just overall skin health is to try to exfoliate your skin.

So what I mean by that is there are so many different scrubs and different kinds of ways of getting your skin to get exfoliated and I think one of the things that we see is that if you allow old, dead, dry skin cells to just hang out on your skin for a long period of time, it prevents the good cells that are underneath from really coming to the surface.

So just like when we go to get a haircut and they trim the ends of your hair so that your hair grows better, very similarly, if you can get that extra excess amount of old, dead, dry, flaky skin off, it’ll actually promote better skin to come to the surface.

There you have it. That’s five ways of making sure that you can do your best to make that after party look look better. So, it’s the hangover face episode. Have a great, safe holiday and we’ll talk to you again next time.

Why Should You Be Keeping Up On Your Botox?

December 13, 2019 by Davis

Always keep in mind the importance of keeping up on your botox appointments. Nothing perfect lasts forever, and that same concept applies to facial fillers. When patients return to us after several months concerned that their Botox injections are beginning to become subdued, we assure them this is entirely normal.

Following your initial dose, new muscles are recruited to come into play on your face. Many of the on-air personalities that we work with are familiar with this course of action and make sure to scheduale appointments in order to get in front of cracking or unwanted muscle action.

Keeping up on your botox is essential in making sure you get the most out of your procedure. Watch this week’s featured video with Dr. Steven Davis as he explains to a patient this lengthy process.

[Transcript]

So here’s the thing. One of the reasons why we always tell everybody about keeping up on their Botox, isn’t so much because we want you to come back so frequently. The problem, and that’s what I think one of the things happens is, when all the Botox completely goes away from your system.

That two, let’s say 10 day, two week period when certain muscles have been injected with Botox and they’re starting to get like, put to rest. Other muscles that want to help you do an animation that you were use to doing with those muscles that were just put to rest, it takes a little bit of time for those other muscles to accommodate. And you recruit them to make you do the animation you wanna do. So let me give you an example.

When we inject the crow’s feet here and you go out in the sun, you not gonna have a very easy time in the beginning. Squinting with that bright sun. Within about two weeks though, magically this area still looks great but you’re able to squint a little better than you were before. And that’s because you’ve recruited additional muscles in areas around that zone but that weren’t injected with Botox. And those muscles help do the animation that you’re trying to do. And that’s what happens here as well.

When we trying to get it so that there’s not a wrinkle on you face. In the beginning it may be a little cumbersome because it’s gonna stop you from doing certain animations. But ones that kinda kicks in, it’s probably about a two week period. Other muscles that haven’t been injected, if it’s done properly, will help you do things that you need to do so that it doesn’t feel awkward.

Here’s the point though, if you let that whole bunch of six months go by and now you have no more Botox in that area, you’re gonna need that same 10 day, two week period again to ramp up. If you come back within three to four months even though you may not need the Botox yet because there’s still some working, you’ll never really have that 10 day, two week period that you have to go through that.

And we know that this works because a lot of the on-air TV personalities that we inject always come in when they start to see the beginnings of cracking or muscle action. Because they know they don’t wanna look any different tomorrow night, lets say than they did last week.

So they don’t want that two week period of when things look odd. So that’s why I’m saying, keeping up on it is probably more so from the standpoint that if you don’t want everybody to know you just did your Botox or something. It’s probably better to always have that three, four month planned out. So you don’t go through that 10 day, two week period of awkwardness.

Safe Breast Implant Options Without Textured-Surface Implants

December 6, 2019 by Davis

Breast implants were previously one of our most popular procedures, but times have changed. With the big news that textured-surfaced were the culprit for BIA-ALCL, we’ve noticed a drop in people with the desire for breast augmentation. Fortunately, Dr. Davis is here to present breast implant options without textured-surface implants! Our Cherry Hill, NJ plastic surgery practice agrees you shouldn’t have to worry about any complications arise from your cosmetic procedure. So, to prevent any issues, we want to break down some breast augmentation procedures that have been proven safe & effective.

Whether it be for a post-pregnancy procedure or something more cosmetic, there is a breast implant procedure for everyone. Tune in as your favorite doctor covers breast implant options without textured-surface implants and more.

[Transcript]

– Welcome everyone, Dr Steven Davis at Davis Cosmetic Plastic Surgery. I know a lot of you out there have probably been hearing so much about breast implants, and you really wanna know is it still safe to get them? What should we do about them? We heard so much about these textured surface implants, and that has scared a lot of patients about the whole process.

I really wanted to talk a little bit more about the need and the use of breast implants, and let you know that the textured surface of a breast implant really shouldn’t have anything to do with you wanting to do something about restoring volume to your breasts. There are so many other types of implants that do not have a textured surface to them. And one of which has been around since the early 1960s, which is a saline breast augmentation. We have saline implants nowadays that are very, very, very new, in the sense that they’re all different shaped, just like a silicone gel implant would be.

So if something about the word silicone may bother you, the saline breast implants have been around for a very long time. And there really has never been anything to show that there was a problem with anything to do with the saline implant. Let me also put some other things to rest. Which is some of these silicone gel implants that are what we would consider to be gummy bear type of implants, because if you cut them in half it would be like you were cutting in half a gummy bear candy.

Those implants also do not have to have any kind of a textured surface to them. So if it is something that you’re thinking about, and I see a lot of patients that have had multiple pregnancies, they’re in great shape, and they’re doing everything they possibly can in a gym to really stay in great shape.

But if you’ve lost some volume in the upper pole of your breast, it’s very difficult to restore that with anything besides using some sort of a breast implant. We want you to come in.

We want you here at Davis Cosmetic Plastic Surgery to ask all the questions that you possibly can, and allow us to really show you the safety and make sure that you’re comfortable with the whole idea of what a breast augmentation or a breast implant should be like.

And we can always find the one that kind of fits you, not only for your body shape, but also will give you the projection that you want. And make it so that it’s as safe for you as possible.

Hopefully we’ll see you soon at Davis Cosmetic Plastic Surgery.
