Transcript

Hi, everyone. I know a lot of you have heard the term thread lifting, where you’re using certain kinds of threads that are put into the face to either lift the face or cause some collagen to be stimulated in your skin.

I kinda stayed away from them for a while because I knew that a brand new one, a brand new version was coming out, and I’m really excited to tell you that I’m gonna be the first one in the entire Tri-State Area that’s gonna have it. We’re gonna get it this week and once we have it, I think you’re gonna be very excited to see what it can do.

It’s a combination, it’s gonna be a combination of different kinds of threads, some that actually, you’ll stimulate your own body’s collagen production, and other ones that will actually lift the tissues up into place and stay there for a much longer time than the other ones.

So stay tuned and I’m very excited about this, so I’ll be giving you more information as the time goes on.

Big thank you to Susan for taking the time to discuss your flawless facelift recovery.

[Transcript]

  • Hi. I thought this was a really, really important time to talk about something. This lovely young lady right here, Susan, is my patient. Seven days ago today, she had a facelift. And she’s nice enough to come out and talk with us about this, because we just finished seeing her post-operatively. But she said so many important things that I really wanted to probe this a little bit more, so that everybody that has been thinking about any kind of surgery, especially something like a facelift, would have an experience, hopefully, like Susan had. But she had one once before. And that’s where I wanna talk about the differences, especially from the patient’s perspective, of how she felt afterwards, how it went, and even the results following that. So, Susan, thank you so much for being here.
  • You’re very welcome. You’re very welcome.
  • So talk to me. Tell me a little bit about the difference between this experience, that was seven days ago,
  • Mm-hmm.
  • And the one you had,
  • About, approximately, 10 years ago.
  • Okay.
  • Okay.
  • 10 years ago I had a facelift. And I expected to look different after the facelift. After the surgery, I was in extreme pain. I was in pain for approximately, I would say, over two weeks.
  • Yeah. Because I remember going back to work and still being careful where I put or placed my head.
  • Right, right.
  • And the results were, for me,
  • Yeah.
  • And for everybody that saw me, they asked me, “Why did you do what you did? “Because you look the same.” This time around it’s a whole different game.
  • That’s so nice.
  • I woke up, I looked around. I realized I had a beautiful headpiece. But I wasn’t in pain, I wasn’t groggy. I spent my time. My brother came and picked me up. I went home, I took no pain pills, I ate soup.
  • Yeah.
  • I’m old school and I listened to, they say “soft-soft.”
  • I told you. Right, right, right. Right.
  • Exactly, exactly. And thank God. I mean, a week later I’m ready to go.
  • I can see. The day after. That’s what was amazing.
  • Yes, that too. That too, thank God.
  • The day after surgery
  • Thank you.
  • She came dressed in a leather jacket, like she was going to hop on a motorcycle. I got very scared. I looked out the window to make sure she wasn’t on a motorcycle, with leather boots.
  • Yes, yes, yes.
  • But I do think it’s an important thing for everybody to hear that, especially when it comes to comparing things, people think that all facelifts are equal, or even getting an injectable where somebody goes, “Oh my God, I saw my girlfriend “and she had these gigantic lips and they look awful.”
  • Right, but they forgot that’s what she asked for.
  • True, that’s exactly right. Or it’s just a different person’s-
  • Slant.
  • Slant or what they wanted, and also the person that they went to have the procedure done by, may also be different.
  • Correct.
  • So I think that’s the important take home message is that, we really could, hopefully everybody gets a wonderful patient like this. You would love to have patients like this, everybody would get somebody as wonderful as this. But the bottom line is, we really do take our time to make sure that there really wasn’t a lot of bruising anywhere.
  • No, there was no bruising. There was no bruising.
  • Right. Stitches came out now, not a lot of that, and your neck looks amazing.
  • Right.
  • Your face and your jawline.
  • And beyond that, there was no pain. Recovery was quick
  • I know.
  • And easy.
  • It’s interesting.
  • And people shouldn’t be afraid. And don’t listen to your friend who had it
  • Right.
  • 10 years ago. Because hello, 10 years later,
  • Because you told me.
  • It’s a big difference.
  • We first met virtually on our first camera visit.
  • Mm-hmm.
  • And that’s one of the things that you were really concerned about was the pain, because you remembered what it was like 10 years ago.
  • Oh yeah, it was horrific.
  • Right, right.
  • It was horrific. I mean, I was eating the oxycodone and then checking, I’m like, “Shouldn’t take anymore,” to make your eyes roll in your head, so you just go to sleep so you’re not in pain.
  • Right.
  • And this time around, thank you. Thank you, Doctor.
  • I’m so happy.
  • Excellent.
  • Thank you.
  • Well, we wanted to say thank you, Susan.
  • You’re welcome.
  • But I thought it was really important to talk about facelifts and recovery.
  • Yeah.

Did You Know Not All Cannulas Are Created Equal?

November 6, 2020 by Davis

One of the hottest trends in plastic surgery at the moment is the use of cannulas. Cannulas provide plastic surgeons with the ability to target specific areas of the body without the need for invasive surgery. But, did you know that not all cannulas are created equal?

A brand new cannula that has been FDA approved gives our practice the ability to target areas like never before! Both minimally-invasive and maximally effective, these new cannulas are ideal for those looking to improve a specific aspect of the body.

Check out Dr. Steven Davis on YouTube as he dives into a few more reasons why cannulas are not all created equal. There are tons of different options for you to choose from! Contact us today to learn more about the possibility of each one.

[Transcript]

Hi everyone, Dr. Steven Davis at Davis Cosmetic Plastic Surgery. One of the hottest things that I’m sure you probably already have heard about is this thing called a cannula. And in plastic surgery, we’ve been using cannulas for years and years and years.

But the latest thing that you may be hearing about is that there’s a new cannula that’s been FDA approved to be used in facial injections of all different types.

So that if we’re going into the lips, if we’re going into the cheeks, anywhere, we can now use this cannula. But did you know that not all cannulas are created equal? Let me show you what I mean. This is a liposuction cannula. And the liposuction cannulas have all different heads to them, depending on what you’re trying to do with them.

There are different sizes, different shapes, different openings. And in general, it’s like a metal straw that has different kinds of holes at the end of it. So this is one kind.

This one has another kind of head to it, but we also call cannulas something that we use to actually inject local anesthetic. So this cannula looks much more like a sprinkler head. Where you’re gonna be able to inject local into an area.

Another kind of cannula is the kind that we’re talking about now in facial injectables, where we can actually use the cannula to inject either product like Juvederm and Restylane and things like that, or we can actually take the fat that we used from using this to do actual liposuctioning and then reinject your fat by using these special kinds of cannulas like this.

But the latest and greatest are these disposable ones. And this is from one company where you actually have a very flexible plastic, kind of a cannula that we can inject anything into the skin or the neck or any areas like that. And this is the brand new one that’s been FDA approved by Allergan.

So just for your information, when you hear the word cannula just know that it could mean a lot of different things. Talk to you soon.

Did You Know How Cannulas Can Eliminate Facial Bruising?

October 30, 2020 by Davis

In a recent “did you know?” episode, Dr. Davis covered cannulas and the magic they present to the plastic surgery community. By making small slits in the skin, we can now use cannulas to target particular areas of the face. If you find yourself easily bruising from procedures, whether due to taking blood thinners or something along those lines, utilizing cannulas is your best option.

Cannulas aren’t just for giving plastic surgeons the ability to target particular areas of the face. They are fantastic ways to eliminate facial bruising that would otherwise be present after injections.

Do cannulas sound like the optimal way to eliminate burning for you and your body? Please don’t hesitate to reach out to our office and schedule a virtual consultation with board-certified plastic surgeon, Dr. Steven Davis.

[Transcript]

Hi, Dr. Steven Davis, at Davis Cosmetic Plastic Surgery. In one of our previous, did you know, episodes I talked a lot about cannulas. But what I wanted to make sure you understand is, the cannulas that we’re now using around the face are really being utilized for one really, really important purpose. And that is we’re able to literally get all around an area by just using one little opening in the skin.

And that’s what this kind of a cannula allows us to do. We’re able to actually take a little small needle. That’s slightly larger than the size of the cannula. And once we make that little opening we can use a cannula that has various lengths to them. And actually for one little opening, we can get all around the face. This is going to limit any bruising potential.

It’s going to limit any painful type things that you may experience from actually a needle stick. And it also allows a more safely applied use of whatever we’re injecting, be it fat or even things like Juvederm and Restylane and those kinds, types of products.

So when you’re going to the plastic surgeon’s office and they’re going to be using a cannula, or if you wanted to try that out, make sure you bring that up to them because especially if you’re someone that you know you bleed a lot or you bruise a lot because you may be on any kind of blood thinners or other types of medications.

This may be the way to get away without having any bruising at all. Talk to you again soon.

Halo Laser Treatments for Freckles from Sun-Exposed Skin

October 23, 2020 by Davis

As the seasons change, so do our most popular procedures. The fall weather is setting in; it’s the perfect time to assess any sun damage you may have received over the hot summer. Long days in the sun often result in skin issues to highly exposed areas, such as your neck, arms, and décolletéte.

With the appearance of freckles becoming very prominent after summer, take the time to talk with a plastic surgeon about the possible procedures out there to help. Here at Davis Cosmetic Plastic Surgery, we stand by Halo laser treatments for freckles from sun-exposed skin. The Halo laser has produced significant results in alleviating the appearance of freckles all over the body.

Why wait? Give our practice a call today, and take care of those freckles from sun exposure. The Halo laser is calling your name!

[Transcript]

– Hi, everyone. Dr. Steven Davis at Davis Cosmetic Plastic Surgery. One of the most popular procedures every year right after the summer, once we get into the fall, is something to do with sun exposed skin that have may have gotten very, very freckled.

Mostly, we see it in the decolletage area, the chest, the neck, and the face as well as the hands. And nowadays I’m even having patients coming and talk to me about their knees or their elbows that just may have gotten freckled, and a lot of discolored type of skin in comparison to the rest of their skin.

So that’s when we always bring in the great laser that we call the halo laser. And the halo laser is really stand alone type of laser as opposed to any other type of laser that you or your girlfriends or anybody else may have talked about, this halo laser really does a tremendous job in trying to do two very important things.

One thing is it try to stabilize and equal out the pigment that may be in your skin. So some people have this dyschromia, melasma, anything that has to do with like a tone difference in their skin. Sometimes it’s just in a small area like underneath the eyes, sometimes it’s on the cheek, or sometimes it can just include like a whole decolletage or neck area.

That laser called the halo laser does the best job in being able to go way after any skin type: African American, Asian, it doesn’t matter because this laser can treat all different skin types, that’s number one. Number two, simultaneously it goes after fine lines and wrinkles.

So it’s literally a home run when you’re talking about doing anything around the face, neck, or areas where you may have some crow’s feet, some very creepy type of skin underneath the eyes that’s also hyperpigmented.

If this sounds like something that you’re interested in, definitely make sure that you’re talking to your plastic surgeon, or you can call us at Davis Cosmetic Plastic Surgery and talk to us about the halo laser. Talk to you soon.

Utilizing Tumescent Solution for Liposuction Surgery

October 16, 2020 by Davis

When you think of the word “liposuction,” what comes to mind? If you envision a highly invasive surgery needing general anesthetic, we have exciting news!

By utilizing tumescent solution for liposuction surgery, our practice can target specific areas of the body that need anesthetic. With the injection of this fluid, certain body areas can now be numbed and operated on without all the other complicating factors.

Let’s perfect your body’s form without the need for heavy, general anesthetic. Why wait? Contact us today to learn more about the wonders of tumescent solution for liposuction.

[Transcript]

Hi, Dr. Steven Davis. Davis Cosmetic Plastic Surgery. We are in an operating room right now, and this is an operating room where we do a lot of liposuction. It’s interesting because when you hear the word liposuctioning, I’m pretty sure that most of you think that you are going to go under anesthesia, and have a lot of other complicating things going on. But did you know that in an office setting, we could do a lot of different kinds of liposuctioning, because of one very important trick.

And that trick is something we like to call, a tumescent solution. A tumescent solution is basically a really big word that means, we are injecting local anesthetic in different areas that we are gonna liposuctioning. And this tumescent anesthesia if you will, this tumescent fluid, is a fluid that contain numbing stuff, like lidocaine.

Like you would go and get at the dentist. But in addition to that, it has some saline and some epinephrine, which kind of constrict blood vessels. And the reason why this is so important, is because once that fluid is in an area, the area has been too messed. And what that word basically means is, it’s been made into a tiny area.

So that when we go in there and try to liposuction that area out, instead of it being very jigally, this area has been made very torn. And when the area get torn like that, it becomes much easier to take this very fine straw and liposuction out the fluid.

The other great thing about is, the fluid has now been put into a soup, based on all the fluid we actually put in. So that when we are going into take out the fat, think of it this way, we are actually going into that area, and instead of that fat being jigally we’ve made it more firm. So that when we are going in with this canuler, we can actually extract it very very easily.

The next time you hear the word tumescent anesthesia, you’ll understand that means is, we are getting that area all numb and ready for a surgical procedure. But it can be done without having general anesthesia or anything else like that. Talk to you soon.

Dr. Davis on Yahoo! Finance – “Under the Knife: The Boom of Plastic Surgery”

October 2, 2020 by Davis

Per Yahoo! Finance: “Board Certified Plastic Surgeon Dr. Steven L. Davis joins The Final Round to discuss the rise in plastic and elective surgeries amid the coronavirus pandemic and how his business has adapted to new operating standards.”

[Transcript]

  • The coronavirus outbreak has forced some states to suspend elective surgeries and New Jersey was one of those states that made the decision to do so at the end of March. They since have resumed those procedures last month. For more than this, we have Dr. Steven Davis. He’s a plastic surgeon at Davis Cosmetic Plastic Surgery in Cherry Hill, New Jersey and Dr. Davis, Great to have you on the show. Let’s talk about the impact that COVID-19 has had on cosmetic procedures. What’s demand been like since you reopened and what are people preferring or choosing to have done at this time?
  • Well, it’s great to be on the show. One of the things that I know everyone has started to realize is that when they’re on all these Zoom calls, they’re seeing themselves a lot and they start to notice that there’s a lot of things that could be improved upon. So you can imagine things like eyelids, around their face, neck skin, everything that you could see all day long when you’re on these Zoom calls, having to be things that people were dying to come back in to talk about. Right off the bat, things like Botox injections and fillers, and all those things are great. Especially if you’re wearing a mask, you could do certain things and no one even knows you really had it done. But the interesting thing to me is that during the summer months, facelifts and lasers and things like that are generally speaking, not the first thing that most people are coming in to get done now. But I think because people are working at home and they can really have the time off while they’re still working, we’re seeing a real uptick in surgeries as well.
  • Doctor, I don’t know if you do consultations over Zoom, and if that’s the case or if it isn’t, I’m just wondering if you could take a look right here and sort of make some suggestions because you know, I’ve gotten some comments.
  • So I’m checking you out. I was watching you.
  • Yeah, so first of all, in all seriousness, do you do this over Zoom and in not all seriousness, what do I need?
  • Okay, so here it is. One of the things that really got born out of this whole pandemic is the idea that I can do virtual consultations on all these patients. And I did that for about three months while we were really closed down. And it’s fascinating because it gives me an opportunity to really talk to them in their home environment. I think they’re much more relaxed. I think they feel really good about talking to me. And when they finally do come in, we have a game plan already set up and ready to go. So I think that’s really helped that. And I think I’m gonna continue to do this moving forward even though we can do everything now ’cause we’re all open here.
  • I kind of feel like I should just talk to you like this, but I’m interested, what’s the male female breakdown? And has that changed during the Zoom boom?
  • Great question. The female to male is still much more female. I would say there’s about 20 to 25% men are coming in, but interestingly enough, a lot of guys are coming in to get the liposuctioning procedures that they may have put all for awhile. But now that they know that they can actually get the procedure done today and literally be on Zoom calls and working from home tomorrow, we’re seeing a lot of guys coming in for liposuctioning of their chest, maybe their abdomen, love handles, things like that. So it’s actually been fascinating to me to see how many people are really excited about coming back and working on themselves. I think at the end of the day, one of the things that have come out of this whole Corona pandemic is the idea that we really have to care about ourselves and take care of things like that. And Andy, I’m still looking at you too. So you’re doing good.
  • If it takes that long, it’s probably not a good thing, I’m thinking, right?
  • Well, it’s all patient confidentiality and we have a lot of people on this call.
  • Obey the HIPAA, obey the HIPAA!
  • So I’ve just got one more question. Do people have money to spend on this? Has there been any change in that?
  • Isn’t that unbelievable? That’s another great question. Yes, I don’t know, I think they’re not traveling. So I think a lot of the funds that are coming into this are based on the fact that you can’t really go anywhere on vacation right now and patients really, that I’ve seen in the past that have been trying to put this off for awhile, I’ve seen them come back to the practice and they’re deciding to do it now as opposed to push it off because they’re gonna use the funds that way as opposed to going to Europe or taking a trip with the family or doing things like that.
  • Dr. Davis, I have a question for you just about how your doctor’s office and doctor’s offices in general have changed since the outbreak. Because I think of us, I have been to a few doctor’s offices since coronavirus and obviously, you notice that a lot of the procedures are different. You don’t wait in the waiting room for nearly as long. So how has COVID-19 changed the way that your business is running, if at all?
  • Great. As a plastic surgeon, we’ve always dealt with sterility things and just making sure everything was safe. But for three months, that’s basically what I did. I converted the entire office to being as safe as possible. We changed all the air filtration systems in the office, the way we see patients now, again, very individual basis. And we just open rooms as they become available, no waiting room as you alluded to. But I was on a lot of international plastic surgery calls during those three months. And it was a fascinating to have best practices around the whole world really talk about how we could open up again safely so patients would feel comfortable coming back and having procedures done. So we pulled up all the floors. We repainted everything ’cause we had three months to basically work on this stuff. So I think it really is important for patients to know that it is safe and we’re doing everything to make sure that that’s exactly how it’s gonna continue.
  • All right, Dr. Davis, a plastic surgeon at Davis Cosmetic Plastic Surgery. Great to get your thoughts. We really appreciate you taking the time. Thanks so much for joining us.
  • [Dr. Davis] Thank you all very much.
