Why Summer May Be the Best Time for Plastic Surgery

July 29, 2026 by Allison Gross

When most people think about planning plastic surgery, they often assume fall or winter is the ideal time. Cooler temperatures, looser clothing, and fewer outdoor activities seem like the obvious advantages. But according to board-certified plastic surgeon Dr. Steven Davis, that assumption causes many patients to overlook one of the best opportunities of the year.

Depending on the procedure you’re considering and your personal schedule, summer can actually be an ideal time to invest in yourself.

The key isn’t simply choosing the right season—it’s choosing the right procedure for your lifestyle and recovery goals.

Two Types of Summer Procedures

Dr. Davis encourages patients to think about summer plastic surgery in two categories.

The first includes procedures with relatively short recovery times that allow you to continue enjoying the season. The second includes surgeries that require more downtime but fit perfectly into a summer schedule if work slows down, the kids are away, or your calendar is simply more flexible.

Understanding the difference helps patients make smarter decisions rather than postponing treatment until later in the year.

Procedures That Can Fit Into Your Summer Plans

Many cosmetic procedures today involve significantly less downtime than they did even a decade ago.

Liposuction

Modern liposuction has become far more refined than many people realize. Small treatment areas such as the abdomen, flanks, neck, thighs, or upper arms can often be treated with a recovery that allows patients to resume many normal activities within a week or two.

Compression garments remain an important part of healing, but they can often be incorporated into daily routines without preventing patients from enjoying much of their summer.

Of course, every procedure is different. Recovery depends on how much fat is removed and whether additional surgery—such as a tummy tuck—is performed at the same time.

Eyelid Surgery (Blepharoplasty)

Upper and lower eyelid surgery continues to grow in popularity among both men and women.

One reason is the relatively quick recovery. Bruising and swelling often improve significantly within several days, and sunglasses easily conceal the healing process while patients return to their normal routines.

For people bothered by tired-looking eyes or excess eyelid skin, blepharoplasty can deliver meaningful improvement without requiring weeks away from everyday life.

Mini Facelift and Neck Lift

Not everyone needs a full facelift.

Many patients simply notice early skin laxity around the jawline or neck, particularly after weight loss or natural aging. Others may have had a facelift years ago and only need a subtle refresh.

For appropriately selected patients, a mini facelift combined with a mini neck lift can restore definition with less recovery than a more extensive facial procedure.

As Dr. Davis explains, today’s goal is often refinement—not dramatic change.

Summer Is Still Prime Time for Breast Procedures

Breast surgery continues to be one of the most requested cosmetic procedures during the summer months.

Breast Augmentation

Modern breast implants have evolved dramatically over the years.

Today’s highly cohesive silicone gel implants—often called “gummy bear” implants—offer improved softness, shape retention, durability, and natural-looking results compared to earlier generations.

Technology continues to improve, giving patients more options than ever before.

Implant Exchange

Many women who received breast implants years ago eventually decide it’s time for a change.

Pregnancy, weight fluctuations, aging, or simply changing personal preferences may lead someone to choose a different implant size or profile.

Because the implant pocket already exists, implant exchange surgery often involves a quicker recovery than an initial augmentation, making it an attractive option during the summer months.

Hair Restoration During the Summer?

Surprisingly, yes.

Many patients assume they should avoid hair transplantation until colder weather arrives.

In reality, a properly fitted hat often makes recovery remarkably manageable. While swimming should be avoided during the earliest stages of healing, patients can frequently continue enjoying outdoor activities while protecting the newly transplanted grafts.

For many people, recovering during summer means they’ll begin seeing noticeable hair growth as fall and winter approach.

Procedures That Benefit From Extra Recovery Time

Some surgeries simply require additional healing.

Rather than avoiding them during summer, many patients actually choose this season because they have fewer work obligations, children are at camp, or vacation time provides the opportunity to recover comfortably at home.

These procedures may include:

  • Tummy tuck
  • Full facelift and neck lift
  • Arm lift
  • Thigh lift
  • More extensive breast lift procedures

If your schedule allows for several weeks of recovery, summer can provide the uninterrupted healing time that produces the best long-term results.

A Growing Trend: Breast Enhancement Without Implants

One of the most exciting developments in aesthetic surgery is the growing use of a patient’s own fat.

Instead of relying solely on implants, surgeons can now remove unwanted fat from areas such as the flanks or abdomen through liposuction and carefully transfer it to the breasts.

When combined with a breast lift, fat grafting can restore upper breast fullness while eliminating excess skin—all using the patient’s own tissue.

This approach reflects a larger trend throughout aesthetic medicine: utilizing the body’s own regenerative capabilities whenever appropriate.

Just as treatments like PRP, regenerative therapies, and other biologic procedures continue to gain popularity, fat grafting offers another natural option for carefully selected patients seeking subtle, youthful enhancement.

The Right Time Is When It Fits Your Life

There is no universal “best season” for plastic surgery.

The best time depends on your goals, your lifestyle, your recovery needs, and the procedure you’re considering.

Some surgeries can have you back to enjoying summer activities surprisingly quickly. Others may require more downtime—but summer’s slower pace can actually make recovery easier than trying to fit it into the busy fall or holiday season.

Rather than waiting for the “perfect” time of year, schedule a consultation to discuss your goals and determine which treatment—and which timing—is right for you.
